Natural Deodorant for a clean, cruelty-free experience


Bite investigated their natural deodorant to assess its odour neutralizing properties, and determine whether it would avoid staining user's clothing and improve quality of life. This was an open-label observational single-group clinical trial that used participant outcome methods for data collection. This means that there was one study group (the one that received the intervention); all participants received branded samples of the Bite product and had to complete baseline as well as intervention questionnaires.

The product

Bite has created a plant-based deodorant, in the hopes of creating something to tackle odor without harsh chemicals and plastic packaging. The deodorant is vegan, cruelty-free, includes only clean ingredients and comes with compostable refills. It boasts natural ingredients including coconut oil, castor seed oil, sunflower seed oil, shea butter, Vitamin E, and zinc ricinoleate.

Study design

This was a single-arm observational study over four weeks. Each day for the duration of the study, participants had to shower daily and put on the deodorant first thing in the morning after showering (but before sweating) and reapply it during the day, as needed. Participants completed a survey at baseline, week two, and week four to provide information about their odor, potential stains on clothes, and quality of life.

The participants

35 male and female participants, aged 24-65, completed the study. All participants were generally healthy with some previous natural deodorant use, and exclusively used the Bite product for the duration of the study.


Quantifying Bite's natural Deodorant

This observational study conducted with Bite is a great first step and foundational for their research. It established a baseline for their product's effects and performance. The next step for Bite would be to invest in a double-blind placebo-controlled study, the gold standard for clinical research. 

Aims & Objectives: To evaluate the effects of Bite's natural deodorant on markers of underarm odor, clothing staining and overall quality of life.

Study design: Interventional and observational.

Methods: A total number of 35 male and  female participants completed the study across 4 weeks, using the deodorant after normal showering. The participants were surveyed using an extensive questionnaire at baseline and weeks two and four.

Results: After using the Bite Deodorant over half of participants preferred it to their previous deodorants, while 74% reported increased quality of life after four weeks of use. 

Conclusion: Bite's Deodorant is effective in reducing odor, sweat stains, odor stress, and improving the quality of life in participants. 


Bite's deodorant provides a clean option for deodorizing without sacrificing performance

This single-group study with 35 men and women demonstrated the efficacy of Bite Deodorant in reducing odor, sensitivity, clothing staining, and odor-related stress.

Underarm Odor

The vast majority of participants reported satisfaction with the Bite Deodorant's reduction of underarm odor. The product's performance was rated significantly better than previously used deodorants, and the significance remained from baseline measures to the completion of the study at week four. 


Clothing Staining

Participants reported overall reductions in the staining of both black and white clothing while using Bite deodorant. There was a statistically significant contrast between these measures in Bite versus previous deodorants, as detailed below.

Bite deodorant significantly outperforms previously used deodorants in satisfaction and performance ratings to improve quality of life measures amongst participants. 

35 participants applied Bite deodorant daily after showering for 4 weeks and completed questionnaires at baseline (assessing their previous deodorant) and at weeks 2 and 4 of the intervention period. Single and multi-item Likert scores were compared between time points. 85% of evaluated outcomes were significantly improved from baseline to 4 weeks, demonstrating that Bite Deodorant had significantly higher satisfaction, performance, and quality of life rating versus previously used products. Highlighting the beneficial outcome, 80% of participants gave Bite deodorant a
recommendation rating of 9 or greater out of 10.
