HUM Nutrition's Fan Club is Effective at Reducing the Frequency of Hot Flashes and Promoting Sleep

About HUM Nutrition
The HUM difference
HUM Nutrition has launched ahead of the supplement boom in 2012. The brand is a household name because it believes in educating customers as well as grounding formulations in research by combining exact amounts of standardized extracts that were proven in clinical trials. HUM regularly conducts in-house studies to validate the efficacy of its final formulation. As the company is growing and adding more and more formulations, they were looking at third-party efficacy testing as their next step in scientifically validating their products and choose to work with Citruslabs.
HUM conducted a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial for their menopause product "Fan Club". Citruslabs recruited 110 participants for the study, which were randomly assigned to either the actual intervention or a placebo product that looked exactly like the actual intervention. Participants were sent unbranded products of either the intervention or the placebo and were asked to take the product daily for 8 weeks. During the study period, participants were asked to complete questionnaires at baseline, 4-weeks, and 8-weeks about their symptoms, such as hot flashes. Women aged 38-60 who were perimenopausal or menopausal but otherwise healthy were chosen to participate in the study. Participants had to have mild hot flashes symptoms and not take any other supplements or medication for their hot flashes for the duration of the study.
The study received IRB approval and was listed on www.clinicaltrials.gov.

Study design
This was a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial to study the efficacy of a commercial dietary supplement and its effect on hot flashes, sleep quality, mood, and other symptoms of menopause.
The participants
A total of 110 women were recruited for this trial. Each of the participants was screened and deemed eligible to participate based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The trial was run virtually using a technology platform. The participants in the trial were randomized in either the intervention or the placebo group and took the respective product for 8 weeks. 101 participants finished the entire study and completed the questionnaires at all measurement points.
Abstract
Study to Evaluate the Efficacy of HUM's Fan Club
Supplementation on Severity of Hot Flashes and Associated Symptoms of Menopause
Aims & Objectives: This was a double-blind randomized controlled trial to study the efficacy of a commercial dietary supplement and its effect on hot flashes, sleep quality, mood, and other symptoms associated with menopause.
Study design: Interventional and observational.
Methods: A total of 110 individuals were recruited for this study. Enrolled participants were female, between 38-60 years old. All participants were presenting (self-perceived) one or several of the following: perimenopausal or menopausal; mild to moderate hot flash symptoms.
Results: HUM's Fan Club was effective in reducing the frequency of hot flashes and improving hours of sleep. Fan Club also reduced the severity of hot flashes and improved vaginal dryness, joint and muscle discomfort, mood and stress levels.
Conclusion: Participants experienced substantial improvements in hot flashes, sleep, vaginal dryness, mood, stress, and other symptoms associated with menopause. These improvements demonstrate the efficacy of Fan Club for helping individuals with symptoms associated with perimenopause or menopause.
Results
Understanding Improvements in Hot Flashes, Sleep, and Other Symptoms across the Trial
Participants were asked questions that focused on hot flashes, sleep, mood, vaginal dryness, sexual problems, and other symptoms of perimenopause and menopause at baseline, study midpoint, and the conclusion of the trial. With the three-time point measurement and randomized-controlled study design, a repeated measures statistical approach is most appropriate to understand improvements in the questions asked to participants.
Participants saw improvements in the frequency of hot flashes and improvements in hours of sleep. Fan Club also reduced the severity of hot flashes. Additionally, Fan Club improved anxiety, depressive mood, vaginal dryness, joint and muscle discomfort, sexual problems, and sleep problems. The supplementation also reduced participants' perceived stress. In particular, Fan Club improved participants’ ability to control the important things in life, feeling of nervousness and stress, coping with all the things they had to do, and ability to be on top of things.
