Saie investigated their hydrabeam undereye concealer for markers of under-eye skin health, including hydration, firmness, and brightness.  The study received IRB approval and was registered on www.clinicaltrials.gov. This was an open-label single-group clinical trial that used participant outcome methods for data collection. This means that there was one study group (the one that received the intervention); all participants received branded samples of the Saie products and had to complete baseline as well as intervention questionnaires.

The product

Hydrabeam is a lightweight undereye concealer that boasts "just enough coverage" combined with a generous dose of moisturizing, firming, and smoothing super ingredients. The concealer provides illumination while caring for the skin underneath with powerhouse ingredients like Squalane, Glycerin, Cucumber, and Tomato extract.

Study design

This was a single-arm observational study over four weeks. Participants applied the concealer dialy after their standard skincare and completed extensive questionnaires at weeks two and four to evaluate the product properties and performance. 

The participants

33 female participants, aged 18-45, completed the study. All participants were generally health with varying skin concerns, and exclusion criteria included the use of prescription medication for the skin.

Abstract

The observable effects of Hydrabeam on the undereye area

This observational study conducted with Saie is a great first step and foundational for their research. It established a baseline for their product's effects and performance. The next step for Saie would be to invest in a double-blind placebo-controlled study, the gold standard for clinical research. 

Aims & Objectives: To evaluate the effects of Saie's Hydrabeam concealer on undereye skin appearance and overall look and health of the undereye area.

Study design: Interventional and observational.

Methods: A total number of 33 female participants completed the study across 4 weeks, using the concealer daily after normal skincare. The participants were surveyed using an extensive questionnaire at baseline and weeks two and four.

Results: After using Hydrabeam, 87% of participants reported increased brightness in the undereye area, 78% reported that it blurred imperfections, and 75% reported healthier looking eyes overall.

Conclusion: Saie's Hydrabeam significantly improved participants' undereye appearance and health, and the majority of users noted its ease of application as well as immediate and long-term improvements in observable eye health.

Results

Saie Hydrabeam boosts brightness and improves undereye health 

This single-group study with 33 women demonstrated significant results in favor of Hydrabeam's effects. The majority of participants reported healthier-looking undereye skin as well as immediate blurring and brightening.

Undereye Appearance

Study participants experienced significantly improved undereye appearance after four weeks of using Hydrabeam. A range of parameters were evaluated, including markers of skin hydration, firmness/elasticity, smoothness, brightness, and improvement of undereye circles. All participants found the concealer easy to apply, and other primary endpoints were met by the majority of participants including the longevity of the concealer and the ease with which it could be icnorporated into other skincare and makeup routines. 

The mean Likert scores were collected from the average responses, and at two weeks there were already significant differences between baseline and current measures pertaining to appearance. For the reduction of crow's feet, 45% of participants showed significant improvement (p<.05). Furthermore, 33% of participants reported significant improvement in the tired appearance of thier eyes (P<.05). 

These trends continued to week four, with results remaining significant across several markers. There were also improvements at four weeks that, while non-significant, still demonstrate an overall improvement across primary endpoints relating to undereye feeling and appearance.

Undereye Skin Health

Participants largely reported improved under-eye skin health in addition to aesthetic improvements. The majority of women in the study reported improvements in skin elasticity (63% of participants) as well as in the overall feeling of hydration in the undereye area (91% of participants.) These improvements were accompanied by 85% of participants claiming they would recommend the concealer to a friend, and a further 91% stating they intended to keep using the concealer after the study's conclusion.

Conclusion

Saie's Hydrabeam concealer demonstrated significant results from baseline to two weeks and at the fourth and final week of the study. Of the 33 participants involved, the majority reported improvements in skin appearance as well as skin health following daily use of the concealer.

 

Improvements in appearance were seen in brightness, blurring of imperfections, and reduction of dark circles upon application. Long term benefits to undereye skin health were also reported by the majority of participants, including increased smoothness, elasticity, and hydration.

Saie has created a significant foundation on which to base their product claims, and now presents their Hydrabeam concealer with clinically-backed results.
