Citruslabs: the story of a patient recruitment company

Since 2015, our team has been hard at work raising awareness of clinical trials across the globe. It’s been a challenging few years; but we’ve continued to fight for what we believe in, going from strength to strength in the process. Now, in 2020, having graduated from the renowned Techstar program in New York and been named a Forbes ‘30 Under 30’ company, our mission for this year was to use everything we’ve learnt to create the ultimate trial recruitment and engagement tool - and that's what we've done!

Today, we thought it'd be interesting to take a little journey into our past, to tell our story, so you can get to know us a little better. Whether you represent a research site, a CRO or are just interested in finding out more about clinical research and trial recruitment, our breakdown of the last 5 years in patient recruitment and engagement is bound to be helpful. Give it a read below.

Mindmate

Now a #1 health app in 17 countries, Mindmate was the brainchild of our brilliant founders, Susanne, Patrick and Roger. After meeting at graduate school in Scotland, the three realized

they all shared one unwavering passion: to help care for those with cognitive decline. Susanne and Patrick volunteered in local care homes while Roger tended his grandfather for 7 years as his Alzheimer’s slowly progressed.

With every individual they met and every individual condition they witnessed - despite the differences in each of their situations - they all came to the same realization that something was missing in their patients’ care. Alzheimer’s and dementia currently have no known cure, and this may remain unforeseeable in the future - yet, it was the lack of treatment resources that concerned our founders and, with a little brainstorming, they managed to make an innovative, new treatment foreseeable. With the help of Dr Terry Quinn from the University of Glasgow’s Institute of Cardiovascular and Medical Sciences, the team began to translate contemporary research in dementia care into an actionable, digital platform. What they produced was the first, rough outline of what would be a technological breakthrough in the psychological treatment of neurological diseases.

Mindmate “[takes] senior care into the digital age” (Forbes, 2018) by providing people with cognitive decline the essential tools to help them rebuild and maintain strong mental health. Trusted by millions of users, our health community continues to grow as the content available expands to the needs of individuals today.

Citruslabs

It was only a matter of time before we developed our treatment strategy into a method for finding a cure; and so, Citruslabs was born. Since then, we have covered 20+ indications and worked on over 150 clinical trials worldwide, covering a wide range of therapeutic areas - from cardiovascular to respiratory. After a lot of hard work by our team, we now have the potential to offer over 3 million pre-screened patients to clinical trials across the globe.

Our work began when we decided to add a special platform to our app. The introduction of our ‘Mindmate research’ page and pop-up notifications meant that users could now be directly contacted about clinical studies recruiting in their local area. As a 2018 study by Clinical Leader suggests that up to 50% of Americans may be unaware of clinical research, Citruslabs’ mission is to educate about clinical studies as much as we can. Despite national patient confidence statistics hitting record lows over the COVID-19 lockdown period, our patient engagement solution has come out unscathed. This is why we are ready to help rebuild patient confidence and, with our latest innovation, we are confident we can do just that.

Patient recruitment dashboard

Pulling together all our expertise, we’ve created the ideal patient recruitment dashboard to help researchers improve their current metrics. With over 3 million patients on record, we ensure research sites are connected to a thoroughly educated and engaged pool of participants; so, it is no wonder why we have such high patient confidence! Now, we would say that other models are available - but this would be a lie. In fact, unlike that offered by other patient recruitment companies, our easy-to-use dashboard is the first-of-its-kind for the market; giving researchers a unique insight into their patients’ wants and needs via industry-leading technology. The future of clinical recruitment starts here.
