Driven by Science: air up’s pathway to research-backed products

In today's fast-paced world, the importance of wellness and self-care has never been more evident. People are seeking innovative ways to improve their well-being and live healthier lives. Among the companies at the forefront of this wellness revolution is air up, a pioneer in the industry, that is making waves with its groundbreaking innovation. The brand has been shaking up one of the most basic facets of health and wellness: hydration. Their team has created a scent-based drinking system that separates the flavor from the water based on the physiological phenomenon of retronasal smelling. This system features flavored pods designed to bring excitement to your daily water intake and create a healthier and more responsible source of daily hydration.

Now, the company has decided to take their innovation to the next level. Driven by a shared commitment to science and the mission to increase transparency and consumer trust, air up has decided to partner up with Citruslabs to run a double-blind randomized-control study in the next couple of months.

Randomized-control study: a collaborative research initiative

The decision to conduct a randomized controlled, double-blinded research study represents a significant step in the evaluation of air ups wellness products. The choice to employ the double-blinded method in the study ensures that the investigation mitigates biases and maintains scientific integrity, offering a rigorous and objective assessment of air up’s impact on hydration and overall well-being. This approach provides a credible foundation for evidence-based wellness.

During the study, participants in this trial will use the air up drinking system which uses retronasal science to enhance the flavor of water, without adding sugar or additives. Participants will either use air up® Peach, air up® Orangeade, or an air up® Control that is unscented.

The study is also a testament to the dedication to increasing transparency and fostering trust for wellness consumers. The study seeks to offer valuable insights into air up’s innovative products’ potential, promoting an informed approach to wellness choices based on credible, impartial research.

“Our dedication lies in creating an innovative system for our consumers that is driven and backed up by science, “says Dr. Sara Diana Garduno Diaz, Head of Lifescience at air up. “Our customers already know that our products work, but now they will also get scientific confirmation. This is why we have decided to undergo the gold standard of research studies - a randomized-controlled, double-blinded study to ensure reliability for our research results.”

Driving the research from the Citruslabs side is the team around Susanne Mitschke, Co-founder and CEO. “During our discussions for conducting a clinical trial together, we have seen first-hand the dedication, passion, and meticulous attention to detail that air up's team brings to the table. Their commitment to scientific research and quality control is nothing short of commendable.”

Overall, Susanne highlights the importance of clinical research in supporting product claims, even for unusual new products like the air up drinking system. “We’re excited to be a part of air up's journey, conducting rigorous clinical research to validate the potential health benefits of their unique drinking system.”
